ArtExcel - All Around Training In Excellence

"Neither at school, nor at home are we taught to manage our emotions." The ART Excel course supports the overall well-being of children by teaching them a variety of empowering techniques that foster peace of mind, mental clarity and focus, physical relaxation and emotional stability.

All Round Training in Excellence (Ages 8-13)

This course is taught through games and activities where students learn valuable lessons in sharing with others, working and playing in harmony and developing a sense of belonging with others.

Children become more self-expressive, comfortable and natural with diverse groups of people. Activities such as making a new friend each day and random acts of kindness help students to become aware of the needs of others and encourage the integration of human values into their daily lives

In order to be successful in life children need academic skills as well as life skills.

    ART Excel students learn:

The Six Golden Keys to Success
Yoga and breathing processes which help eliminate fear and anxiety
Techniques that enhance focus and concentration
    Simple meditation and relaxation techniques
Skills in friendship, leadership and teamwork.

Join us at the Graylands Festival!

The Graylands Health Campus will once again celebrate the national Mental Health Week with a Festival day. For 2016, the Festival date will be Wednesday, 12 October. Theme of the Week Is “Act Belong Commit: Together We Can Save Lives” which is a positive, constructive theme around suicide prevention. As with the previous year, we invite stakeholders to have stalls and promote their services on the campus using the theme as a foundation message.

We are encouraging stallholders to use a participation based or activity based approach. Feedback from past events indicated that stalls with participation based activities, rather than solely information provision have much greater success in promoting their message, service and also contribute a more positive and Festival atmosphere to the day.

Please note that this will not be an event that is attended by nor promoted to members of the general public. Attendees are patients, carers, families, staff from services based on the campus or from North Metropolitan Health Service Mental Health.

Stall holders are encouraged to be on-site from 9 AM to set up, the day usually commences at 10 AM with a welcome to country and various guest speakers including some VIPs. Normally there are a number of free music events and specific times set aside for attendees to visit stalls both in the morning and also in the afternoon. There is a lunch provided for attendees and stallholders, and normally we have an afternoon tea as well.

A copy of the stallholders registration form has also been included. It would be greatly appreciated if registration forms could be submitted prior to or on the closure date of 30th September. This will assist with stall mapping, catering and security plans.

Should you have any queries with regards to this event, please contact either Xanthe White SSW/CDO at Fitzroy House, Graylands Hospital on 9347 6606 or Karen Elliott A/Program Manager on 9347 6632.

    Youth Focus Quiz Night!

Join us on Sunday 16th October at The Raw Kitchen for a Quiz Night to close out Mental Health Week 2016.

Cost: $15 in advance. $20 at the door. Bookings are essential!
Cost includes entry and light snacks. Cash bar available.
Various tables available; choose between 6 or 10 seats.
    Tickets: https://yofoquiz16.eventbrite.com.au/

The Quiz Night is a project of the Youth Focus Youth Reference Group; a diverse range of 16 – 24 year olds who are passionate about youth mental health, and volunteer their time to ensure all aspects of Youth Focus services are youth friendly.

The night has been created in partnership with Deloitte, and is not only a fundraiser for Youth Focus to continue their life-changing work, but also an awareness-raiser of mental health and friend-raiser in honour of the 2016 Mental Health Week suicide prevention theme of ‘together we can save lives’.

Suicide is a complex issue with many interrelated factors; however, we hope that with events such as this Quiz Night, we are playing our part in building individual and community resilience by providing a safe, enjoyable, and supportive environment to foster new connections, friendships, and conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

We know that Youth Focus is a leading non-for-profit in the youth mental health and suicide prevention sector, but we want all young people to know that we are here for them too. Every life is incredibly important, and we strongly believe that no young person should be denied the chance to lead a meaningful life by struggling with mental illness alone.

We hope to see you there!
