    Mental Health Week 2016 are pleased to collaborate with Edith Cowan University (ECU) to enable 24 unwaged mental health consumers to participate in the Jamie’s Ministry of Food program at ECU’s Joondalup campus.

    Recognising the impact of good nutrition and physical health on mental health, the 7 week cooking program commencing Monday 12 September 2016 coincides with Mental Health Week. Participants will be educated, empowered and inspired to love and enjoy good, healthy food through learning how to cook.

    This three hour workshop aims to educate and provide coping mechanisms for people with mental health issues.

    Week long interactive art exhibition exploring mental health and creativity, presented by Deadline Arts.

    Eight artists will be confined within the exhibition space. The audience will be invited alongside these artists to face their inner demons and openly interact with a healthy outlet to deal with their mental health.

    The pieces will be partly shaped by the audience and the final exhibition will be presented at the end of the week featuring the interactive ongoing work as experienced through the various workshops during the week.

    The event will take on a Collective Story Harvesting format and will involve:

    • Presentation and promotion of the Minditj Kaart-Moorditj Kaart Framework and the LFP
    • Local services and Aboriginal Elders being invited to share their experiences of the LFP, through storytelling
    • Exploration of the key learnings for the story presenters and for the audience in hearing the stories, through the story harvesting methodology
    • Opportunity to disseminate information and shared learning across the Mental Health sector

    • Chris Darmody: Chris is a Clinical Psychologist who has been working in the youth sector for the past 10 years. He has a passion for finding alternative ways of working with young people beyond traditional problem-focused therapies.     It takes a strengths based, family inclusive approach to responding to children of parents with a mental illness.     Parenting Teens the Positive Way

    Direction Psychological Services invite parents in the community to attend this event that aims to promote mental wellbeing and positive parenting.

    The Triple P-Positive Parenting program aims to make parenting easier and more enjoyable. The seminar series, which has 3 seminars, is designed as an introduction to the principles of positive parenting. Parents learn how to use positive parenting to promote their teenager’s growing independence while ensuring their health and wellbeing. For this special Mental Health Week event, Direction Psychological Services will be presenting Seminar 1: Raising Responsible Teenagers, which introduces parents to a formula for promoting positive family relationships and a healthy lifestyle. Key ingredients include encouraging teenagers to be involved in family decision-making, being respectful and considerate, being involved in family activities, having a healthy lifestyle and being reliable and assertive.
